Encourage Me Ajax - Thursday, May 4

Ajax Youth Week presented by RBC Royal Bank

In 2008, Ajax Council approved a partner-based Community Safety Strategy. In developing this strategy, it was discovered that there was an unfortunate perception that many of our students were engaged in negative or anti-social activities. The reality is that many Ajax youth are responsible, productive and involved members of their community, with interesting stories to tell. One of the recommendations was to help fight the perception though an awareness campaign.

Encourage Me Ajax is that campaign, developed with specific goals which include:

  • Supporting youth with encouragement and guidance
  • Enhance the image of youth by focusing on their potential
  • Enlist community members to reshape perceptions though information sharing, dialogue and celebration

Youth Week is a time to honour Ajax Youth's involvement! Whether it is recreation, drama, sport, dance, civic engagement, art, volunteerism or leadership, this is your chance to nominate yourself or an Ajax youth that is involved in their community.

This is your chance to represent youth from across Ajax, and be featured as an ambassador. Ambassadors will be featured on social media, online, in print and as part of the Encourage Me Ajax celebration. Ambassadors will also be asked to take part in additional Youth Week activities from May 1-7.

What does it mean to be a youth ambassador?

YOU represent Ajax youth. You are responsible and productive members of the community with interesting stories to tell. You are our future leaders. Encourage Me Ajax works to battle the negative perceptions that sometimes are directed towards young people.

What are your responsibilities as a youth ambassador?
Attend some of the FREE drop in events with your friends throughout Ajax, between May 1-7 as well as attend the Encourage Me Ajax Event to receive your certificate from the Mayor. This event will showcase the aspirations, dedication and talents that the young members of our community possess. The event kicks off with motivational and inspiring words from Natalie Wideman, followed by interesting stories and passions told by youth, and honoring the 20 youth ambassadors. Food, games, and networking with youth organizations to follow. All ages, and general public are welcome to the event.
